Weekend (6/12–6/14): Typical Summertime Surf – Small S/SE Mix
Offshore high pressure will produce mostly minor 1-2’ surf for the area today in a S/SE swell mix, with top spots only seeing sets around thigh high. Winds will be best in the morning before breezy SSW winds tend to blow things out this afternoon. That said, there is a little sideshore texture even this morning based on the latest camera observations, keeping the morning window marginal.
A weak front will near the area Saturday which should lead to lighter winds across the area, and thus cleaner surf, before SSE breezes add bump for the afternoon. Overall look for minor 1-2′ S/SE swell to continue.
Similar surf is expected Sunday, but we will see a return to breezy SSW winds for the afternoon as the front returns north and washes out. Overall minor summertime surf for the weekend, with the best winds and cleanest conditions in the morning. However, we have morning high tides this weekend so spot selection will be important if you want to take the bigger boards out.
- 6/12 (Friday): 1–2′ (Ankle-to-knee high, occ. thigh-high sets at standout spots) S/SE swell mix. Marginal early morning wind window, turning to poor, blown-out conditions this afternoon as SSW winds increase. Quality: 🟡 / 🔴.
- 6/13 (Saturday): 1–2′ (Ankle-to-knee high). Best winds of the weekend esp. in morning. Light afternoon SSE breezes add a minor bump later. Note the morning high tide, however. Quality: 🟢 / 🟡.
- 6/14 (Sunday): 1–2′ (Ankle-to-knee high). Minor mix continues. Cleanest right at sunrise before choppy afternoon SSW winds develop. Mind the morning high tide. Quality: 🟢 / 🟡.
Looking Ahead: Similar Small Summertime Surf
Another front will approach the area Monday and then move into the area early Tuesday. The surf will stay on the small side with knee up to thigh high surf from the S/SE. No significant change is expected into Wednesday.
For winds, expect WSW winds Monday morning to trend SSW and increase to around 15 knots for the afternoon with increasingly bumpy conditions. More favorable winds and cleaner conditions are expected Tuesday with the front in the area, especially during the first half of the day. WSW winds Wednesday morning trend SSW later in the day, again with the cleanest conditions in the morning.
There is some indication we could see slightly stronger S windswell by the end of the workweek, but confidence is low on specifics as of this time. Overall, 1.5-3′ surf is anticipated (knee-to-thigh high, up to waist-high peaks from the south, especially in the afternoon as the SSW wind surges), though conditions will remain textured and bumpy late in the week, esp. in the afternoons.
- 6/15 (Monday): 1.5–2.5′ (Knee-to-thigh high). Small S/SE mix. WSW winds in the morning trend SSW and increase to around 15 knots in the afternoon, causing increasingly bumpy conditions. Quality: 🟢 / 🟡.
- 6/16 (Tuesday): 1.5–2.5′ (Knee-to-thigh high). Favorable winds and cleaner conditions with the front in the area, especially the first half of the day. Quality: 🟢.
- 6/17 (Wednesday): 1.5–2.5′ (Knee-to-thigh high). Cleanest in the morning with WSW winds trending SSW later in the day, introducing more chop. Quality: 🟢 / 🟡.
- 6/18 and 6/19 (Thursday and Friday): 1.5–3′ (Knee-to-thigh high, up to waist-high peaks esp. in PM). Watching for a potential localized southern windswell bump, but bumpy esp. afternoon. Quality: 🟡.
