WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue wins for the third time in row. A contingent of Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue Team members traveled to Carolina Beach, North Carolina this week once again winning and defending their remarkable first place overall performance at the United States Lifesaving Associations, South Atlantic Regional Championship competition. The team turned in a strong performance defeating their nearest competitor by a very wide margin. This contest WAS comprised of the best lifeguards from 18 agencies within the region, ranging from as far north as Virginia Beach, Virginia to those from as distant south as Ponte Verde Beach, Florida.
“This accomplishment is a testament to their athletic abilities and skill level,” Ocean Rescue Director Dave Baker stated. “I do not have the words that will enable me to express how proud I am of their achievement. It is a very remarkable accomplishment to say the least”. He went on to state, “Knowing that everyone is looking to take you down a notch, year after year as they too are gunning for 1st place, is a testament to the amount of training and dedication each team member had so they would be able to uphold the previous year’s performances. I would also like to add that this achievement would not have been possible without the team effort it takes from all of the Ocean Rescue Lifeguards especially those who stayed behind to protect our beach while these athletes were away competing. To the Board of Aldermen, the Town, and the community of Wrightsville Beach, thank you for the support you have shown the program over all these years. We hope we have made you proud with our accomplishment.”
Up next for those who qualified in their respective events is a trip to Virginia Beach, Virginia, August 10-12, 2023. They will be going against the best from all the regions in the U.S. to compete in the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships where our very own Moe Peacock and Kristi Falco will be defending their National Titles.
