Yesterday was a tough day for the Wrightsville Beach community as we lost one of our own. If you’ve ever been on the beach and saw Jeremy Owens, you’d think he was an action movie star. He had the build of a football player but was, in fact, a gentle giant with a huge heart. He was more instrumental in helping to change the old rotating surf zones than most people are aware. Not to show favor to surfers, but to make the beach safer for all who visited.
He was a person many of the young surfers and lifeguards looked up to with his soft-spoken delivery and his immense stature. He was a consummate professional and demanded the best of himself and his Ocean Rescue crew. Jeremy, you will be missed, my friend. Thank you for all you did for WB and the local community.
