Town of Wrightsville Beach
Press Release
Condition Assessment of the Town of Wrightsville Beach
As of Friday, September 14th at 1:00 pm Town employees assessed the condition of the island. In general, there was shallow flooding on Harbor Island and in other low lying areas of the Town. There was structural damage to a limited number of homes that included mainly roof damage, missing shingles, and missing siding. Higher than normal tides and surge may have compromised some docks but most appeared to be in good condition.
The Town will continue to hold press briefings at 9am, 2pm, and 9pm. These press briefings will continue for the duration of the storm. These briefings, along with live streaming video of areas of the Town can be viewed on the Wrightsville Beach Police Department’s Facebook page.
Town Staff will work to bring water and sewer back on as soon as possible. Duke Energy will also need to repair any downed power lines and restore power to most or all of the island. It is anticipated that this process could take until Sunday morning or slightly later.
The goal is to allow residents and business owners back quickly but in a safe manner and during daylight hours. This can only happen after water, sewer and electric has been restored. Notification of the date and time of re-entry will be sent as more information unfolds regarding restoration of services. Residents with Town vehicle tax decals or some other valid form of property ownership documentation (water bill, tax bill) and a driver’s license will be allowed to re-enter when the evacuation is lifted. Wrightsville Beach business owners will also be able to enter with proper identification when re-entry is announced. At some point following the initial re-entry, the Town will then allow the general public to enter.
